“Leading writers, Writing tip and Emerging writers”

Contributed by: Manycoloured Manley Nowaseb

I have been thinking about how tough it has been to actually start a writing career way back contrary to the present time of the World Wide Web. I mean an emerging writer would have kind of feel isolated, just sitting there in their room, stuck with that old time type writer or just with a pen and a paper in their hand with about ten percent chances that they will actually be paid or published, whereas today - chances are that each emerging writer with reliable internet can instantly get paid for their work and better yet get their work published to millions of readers in just minutes - a dream of every writer.

Still going back, I guess many old school writers had their greatest writings just stuffed under their pillow and never lived the ‘writers dream,’ because of no exposure, yet in our time we have the chance to communicate with writers, publishers/editors and readers in over a thousand nations worldwide, by just a click on the mouse or a touch on the screen as the technology advances.
Even better for modern day writers is that Leading Writers whom went through the rough gives constructive Writing tips, prepares paying publishing sites list and more to Emerging Writers to instantly jump into the writing career online and that makes me come on the reason why I am actually writing this piece.

I want to concentrate on the title; Leading writers, Writing tip and Emerging writers in order to suggest to emerging writers how to carefully digesting, while reading from the tons of writer tips presently available online in order to avoid one thing, which is; confusion of the right place to start as a writer, moving to become a professional one day.

While reading through writer tips online, I thought hard on some tips. As one of the many writers who inspire others to join online writing and writing in general some tips where rather overrated if you look at them from starter’s point of view. I encountered tips such as;
-          How to write eight thousand words a day to boost what you earn as a writer/freelancer,
-          Quite the small gigs and get Big Magazine clients to publish your writing,
-          Five things successful freelancers writers need: (among them where ‘Your own Website) and
-          Freelance writing requires more skills, such as; ‘Subject or writing category Expertise’, ‘Copy writing skills,’ ‘content writing skills,’ etc… I relook at them from an emerging writer’s point of view and I was like, wow! It’s too much!

So I just thought I should encourage Emerging Writers whom may encounter lines such as the above to understand that it is just fair that we present tips on what we have learned as a leading writer and I am sure many of the above tips concentrate on progressing writers if I must put it like that. I also understand that everything we do are directed on laying a foundation and growth therefore being industry players for like over five years we start to up our game by setting new levels of approaching the industry, but this does not however mean the entire approach to emerge as a writer has moved up to that level.
Looking at the above set of examples as an emerging writer you would think that writing ask for more and would want to quite, but mind you; “Food is for the stomach and vice versa, but meat and fish is for adults and milk and soft food is for the babies.”
Don’t get worn out downloading and studying all the tips you read about writing online or freelancing for that matter. Obviously many of such tips are not classified for the class of writer it targets, but I know if you are a reading writer, you will know what tips suits you best- based on your current, -not future- but current position.
For instance if you happen to be a shopkeeper currently who pursues writing and you have only two to four hours free each day, then I don’t think “How to write eight thousand words a day to boost what you earn as a writer/freelancer” tip fits for you just yet, or if you are just starting to approach potential publishing avenues with your first completed work, I would suggest giving await for the Quite the small gigs and get Big Magazine clients to publish your writing, tip etc…

If I have to go on further, my best suggestions will be, quite the drama and tell yourself, I am an emerging writer and I want to learn the basics so I start from the bottom, with that I mean considering a few ‘how to write best’ tips rather than ‘how fast you can make money’ tips.

I have learned that most publishing sites / editors put a minimum amount for writing jobs but suggest they are willing to pay more if they get writings that is worth it. Now if you listen to that good, they just don’t say they can pay more, but they actually tells us that they prefer quality writing contributions, so start learn from there if you must.
Approaching your writing career from the bottom to up will helps you if you make mistakes, in the sense that such mistakes actually cost little or nothing to your reputation, remember your reputation is what you groom as writer.
Let me just say this; it is good to rely on the experiences of others but it is better if you also experience your steps going up and view what unfolds ahead of you, after all not many leaders will tell you the mistakes they made but will rather advise the best you can do to step up, yet you don’t know at what cost.
In the closing write to complete in the best time you can, don’t rush. It is better to have one good original story that can build your reputation and make the editor trust you than to have hundred shoddy stories which the editor use as a basketball to throw into to his office bin.
As for the leading writers out there, keep writing those quality tips, they are always useful. In the same breath thank you for the many old school writers, they laid the foundation for us to write freely today, as for those that never got the chance to publish, I guess they get a chance to write through the writers of this time.

Good luck Writing!
